Gameplay for the Galaxian Coleco Tabletop Arcade
(Coleco - 1981)
This addition to the Coleco tabletop arcade line sports a ton of action on such a small screen, the game play for this tabletop Galaxian game is fairly close to the original stand-up arcade game. It is fast paced and exciting, creative use of the small VFD color screen features more colors than the other units.
Just as in the original arcade game, Galaxian you must shot down enemy spacecraft as they move across the screen and dive bomb your location. It takes a little getting used to because you can only one space for each time you move the joystick. So if you want to move to the left two spaces you must push the joystick left twice.
You can move left and right to aim at, or avoid the enemy using the joystick and fire at the enemy using the button below the joystick.
A cool feature of this Galaxian game is that you can play two player, head to head games... either the short or long versions, making it a fun electronic game you can play with a friend.
I played this game for more than a little while and was quite happy with the way it played... you could easily sink hours into this little game if you are not careful. This unit is pretty faithful to the original. Overall, I would give this game a solid 8-10 for playability.
