Cresta Pink Panther Handheld Electronic Game
(Cresta - 1982)
Donkey Kong was such a popular game in the early 1980's that a lot of people made clones of it, Cresta was no exception to this, first spinning it off in a game titled Jungle Kong, then further compounding it by making a functionally identical game to Jungle Kong called Pink Panther (this same unit was also released under the brand names Halion and Ectron). I found it funny that they would just rebrand their own game rip-off. The only difference between the two is the characters, instead of an ape rolling logs, it was the Pink Panther rolling bombs. For a such an itty bitty Donkey Kong clone, it is surprisingly playable.
Though the screen is small and hard to see in bright light like most LCD screens, you do get the Donkey Kong feel out of it... enough to make this an enjoyable electronic handheld. Even on this monochrome LCD you feel the urgency to get to the top level to capture the Pink Panther.
As far as design goes, I would give this handheld system a passing grade. This Pink Panther game is a good diversion to play, and hey, you can check the time with it too!
