Mattel Aquarius 4k Memory Cartridge - Model 4214
(Mattel Electronics - June 1983)
Since there was not any other way to expand upon the memory of the Aquarius, Mattel came up with a novel method to expand the memory. They put it into cartridge form and utilize the computer's cartridge port as a means to access the extended memory. In theory this was a good plan, but if your Aquarius lacked a mini expander or a data recorder, you couldn't make much use of it other than typing in larger basic programs that would be lost the moment you turned the computer off.
Some of the software cartridges, such as FinForm and FileForm required extra memory and a mini expander was required to run both the software and the memory cartridges simultaneously.
The 4k memory cartridge only provided marginal expandability, it was much preferred to utilize the 16k or 32k cartridges instead.
