Mattel Aquarius Modem - Model 4399

(Mattel Electronics - June 1983)

Aquarius Modem Cartidge
Lacking the expandability of most of the other home computers of it's time, Mattel released a modem for the Aquarius computer in cartridge form. The modem was inserted into the cartridge port on the aquarius and a terminal emulator was loaded via the a data recorder off of the included cassette tape.
Data transfer with bulletin board services was accomplished at 300 baud... opening a whole new world to you on the Aquarius Computer. Files and programs could be downloaded into the computer's memory and ran or saved to the data recorder. The original intent was for the modem to be used on the the Mattel "Aquarius Home Services" on-line service hosted on CompuServe... but this plan never came to fruition.
Some people are under the mistaken impression that they were never released, but a limited amount did make their way to retail locations. I am lucky enough to have a factory sealed box in my collection, as the modem, the four color printer/plotter and the Burgertime game cartridges are considered to be the "holy grail" items in any Aquarius collection.
