Mattel Aquarius Data Cassette Recorder - Model 4394

(Mattel Electronics - June 1983)

Aquarius Data Recorder
The Aquarius data recorder gave practical functionality to the Aquarius computer and gaming system by allowing the capability to save and read data to and from standard audio cassettes rather than losing data stored on in ram that would be lost when the machine is turned off.
Data transfer was accomplished at 600 baud and many programs could be stored on a single cassette. Although it is a standard cassette recorder, a proprietary data transfer cable (standard audio to 5 pin din connector) was required to give it connectivity to the Aquarius... presumedly Mattel's way of making sure that only their cassette recorder was purchased for the system. However, that proprietary data transfer cable could be purchased separately.
