If you’re currently deciding whether to purchase an original copy of Fireball Island or to purchase the remake of Fireball Island, Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar, simply continue reading to discover why you’ll have a lot more fun playing the original game.
3 Reasons to purchase the original Fireball Island board game:
The island in Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar is not the same island that appears in the original Fireball Island:
If you were tempted to purchase the rerelease of Fireball Island, assuming that Fireball Island itself would remain the same, think again. The designers of the remake have chosen to redesign Fireball Island. So if you wanted to play Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar in order to reminiscence about playing the original game, you’ll end up being sorely disappointed.
The original game features a simple to pick up dice system while the remake features an unneccessarily complicated card based system:
Another reason why you may want to purchase a copy of the Fireball Island original game, is that the gameplay differs in the remake. While in the original version you’d roll dice in order to find out how many spaces you would move, in the new version you have to pick up cards, which will determine how many spaces you’ll be able to move or what actions you can take.
So if you’d like to pick up a board game and be able to play it immediately, you’ll find it far easier to play the original version. As you won’t have to learn about the actions of each different card that features in the remake. Some of which have complicated instructions which detract from the fun of playing a board game with your friends or family members.
The remake also features a complicated objective:
The objective of the original Fireball Island was simple, make it around the island’s tracks to get to the top of the mountain, where you’ll be able to steal Vul-Kar’s jewel. Then successfully make it down the mountain and off the island without having your jewel stolen by another player or being hit by one of Vul-Kar’s fireballs.
However in the new version of Fireball Island, not only will you have to steal Vul-Kar’s jewel and escape the island with your jewel, you’ll also have to take four photographs of different areas on the island.
If you love the premise of the original Fireball Island, it’s definitely worth trying to get your hands on an original copy of Fireball Island which is still in great condition.
